Oregon Art Beat — Quilter Mary Catherine Lamb · Oregon Public Broadcasting

Both my Aunts and Maternal Grandmother quilted.  My Aunt Mamie made an art of it.   They would collect fabrics all through the year and stitch them together in large squares. Before it got cold they would hang a rack from the ceiling.   Then they would stretch the bottom fabric across the rack lacing it around the edges.  Then they would layer cotton batting on top and then stitch the squares onto the top of all of it.   It was quite an ordeal.   Sometimes they would do quilt making at my grandmother’s.   They’d sip coffee or iced tea, dip snuff, and enjoy their quilt making.
