I connected this song to Jonny Watson who became a Navy Captain during WWII and shoved one of his gunmen out of the way on his ship after he froze up at incoming fire and Watson took over the gun and started shooting.
I thought Elmo Voliva was a shoemaker. This might be incorrect or he may actually have been the shoemaker and was mixed up with Watson who was the incarnation of the shoemaker and Voliva ~ Avilov the captain. I also connected Watson to some Germans and the prison in which his father was superintendent might have really been a Concentration Camp in Germany. How I made this connection is from what I think was a connection to Poe and Clemm who lived together before getting married and Watson put me up when I was homeless for a few days. During that time he was trying to write a story and I had come upon thoughts about Tophet. It was a year later I wrote the Audacious Avarice, 1998. As things progressed Jack The Ripper and Martha Tabram aka Martha White came into the picture.
